ANODO EJE COLLAR LIGERO Ø 60 (AL) 2T
Description
Function and technical context
The lightweight aluminum collar-type shaft anode for Ø 60 mm shafts acts as galvanic protection on the propulsion shaft, sacrificing itself electrochemically to preserve the noble metals of the transmission system – shaft, propeller, horn and bearings – against galvanic corrosion in marine environments. Being made of aluminum alloy, it is especially suitable for salty and brackish waters, where its electrochemical potential offers effective protection without contaminating the environment with zinc. The collar design in two pieces assembled with screws allows it to be mounted directly on the propeller shaft without the need to disassemble it, considerably simplifying installation in the dock. If this component is completely consumed or not replaced in time, the structural metals of the drive train are exposed to corrosion, with the risk of pitting in the shaft, deterioration of the horn and damage to the propeller that can lead to costly repairs or even the loss of steering of the boat.
When to replace this part?
The clearest sign that the shaft anode has reached the end of its useful life is a visible reduction in its mass: when it has lost approximately 50% of its volume, it must be replaced immediately to ensure continued protection. The standard technical recommendation is to inspect and replace the shaft anodes at least once per boating season, coinciding with the annual maintenance beaching; In areas of high galvanic activity or with boats that remain in the water for longer, a semiannual review is advisable. Replacing the anode preventively, without waiting for its total consumption, is the most economical measure to avoid corrosion of the shaft and propeller, parts whose repair or replacement involves a much higher cost.
