COLLARIN EJE 45mm. STD (ZN)
Description
Function and technical context
The 45 mm shaft collar in standard size (STD) with zinc protection is a sealing and supporting element that works directly on the tail shaft of the boat, in the area where the shaft passes through the hull or the stuffing box. Its main function is to retain the shaft in the axial position, prevent unwanted longitudinal displacement and contribute to sealing the assembly against the entry of seawater into the interior of the boat. Being manufactured with zinc protection, it incorporates galvanic sacrificial properties that delay corrosion of the shaft and adjacent metal components in aggressive marine environments. A damaged collar, with excessive play or cracked can result in abnormal vibrations in the shaft line, premature wear of the stuffing box and, in serious cases, water entering the hull.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a worn shaft collar include noticeable vibration or rattle in the drive line at certain rpm, visible axial play in the shaft when manually pushing and pulling the propeller, and scuff marks or striations on the surface of the shaft where it contacts the collar. It is recommended to inspect the collar at each docking or seasonal maintenance and replace it if it presents deformation, advanced corrosion of the zinc or loss of fit on the shaft. Replacing it preventively during annual maintenance is significantly more economical than facing a shaft line failure while sailing.
