ANODO DISCO TIMON REFORZADO Ø 190mm (ZN)
Description
Function and technical context
The reinforced Ø 190 mm rudder disc anode acts as sacrificial cathodic protection, absorbing galvanic corrosion that would otherwise directly attack the metal parts of the boat's rudder and blade. Made of zinc (ZN), this type of anode is especially indicated for navigation in salt and brackish water, where the aggressive electrochemical potential accelerates the deterioration of submerged structural metals. Its reinforced large diameter design guarantees a greater active mass of zinc, prolonging the useful life of the protection and reducing the frequency of replacement on boats subjected to intensive use. Without effective cathodic protection at the rudder, the stainless steel or aluminum of adjacent components would be exposed to progressive rust, compromising the structural integrity of the vessel's steering system.
When to replace this part?
Sacrificial anodes must be inspected at least once a season and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, since below that threshold the cathodic protection is insufficient. The most common symptoms of a depleted anode are pitting, rust spots, or visible corrosion on the surface of the rudder, blade, or nearby steering hardware. As a professional standard, preventive replacement of the anode at each seasonal grounding is the best practice to avoid costly damage to the rudder that could compromise the maneuverability and safety of the vessel while underway.
