REVERSE GEAR PIN 6K5-45570-00
Description
Function and technical context
The reverse gear is a helical gear that is part of the outboard motor's transmission system, housed in the tail gearbox. This component allows you to reverse the direction of rotation of the propeller, allowing the boat to sail backwards. It works in synchronization with other pinions and synchronizers within the transmission assembly, supporting high torsional loads during anchoring and docking maneuvers. A worn pinion or one with damaged teeth causes difficulty in engaging reverse gear, abnormal vibrations in the stern and progressive loss of reverse propulsion capacity, compromising the safety of maneuvering in confined spaces.
When to replace this part?
Typical symptoms of pinion aging include audible grinding when shifting into reverse, difficulty engaging the gear immediately, and a sensation of slippage during reverse propulsion. Although there is no specific fixed maintenance interval for drive sprockets, it is recommended to check the condition of the teeth by visual inspection during each seasonal maintenance, especially on heavily used boats. Replacing the pinion preventively when the first signs of wear are detected prevents secondary damage to other gearbox components and ensures safe maneuvers at all times.
