SAW PROPELLER CLOSING KIT 57630-94300
Description
Function and technical context
The propeller closure kit groups together the sealing and fixing elements that act at the junction between the propeller and the tail shaft of the outboard motor, forming part of the transmission system in the lower conical group. Its main function is to create a watertight barrier against the penetration of water - salt, fresh or with suspended sediments - towards the internal bearings and the propulsion shaft. When this assembly deteriorates, water accesses unprotected metal areas, accelerating galvanic corrosion of the shaft and generating mechanical play in the propeller hub, which translates into a direct loss of propulsive efficiency and, in the most serious cases, the need for a comprehensive repair of the lower conical group at a cost much higher than the preventive replacement of this kit. References 57630-94300 (Suzuki), whose updated substitute reference is 57630-94301, and 183777 identify this assembly, with equivalence recognized in Johnson/Evinrude reference 5031548.
When to replace this part?
The most common signs that the seal kit has reached the limit of its useful life are: abnormal vibration or unusual noise during navigation, noticeable play when moving the propeller radially or axially with the engine off, presence of moisture or visible rust on the hub and tail shaft, and excessive resistance when disassembling the propeller during periodic inspections. It is recommended to inspect the condition of the seals, bushings and fastening elements during each seasonal maintenance or whenever the propeller is removed for cleaning or inspection of the shaft. Replacing this kit preventively – especially after intense sailing seasons in waters with high salinity, sand or debris – avoids costly breakdowns in the propulsion train that can leave the boat out of service during times of greatest use.
