The propeller closure kit acts as a sealing and fastening assembly between the propeller and the transmission shaft in high-displacement Suzuki outboard motors and equivalent Johnson/Evinrude series. Integrated into the power transmission system, this assembly prevents the penetration of salt water, sediments, and corrosive agents into the interior of the propeller hub and shaft bushing, areas especially vulnerable to galvanic corrosion in marine environments. When the sealing elements deteriorate, moisture and salt access the contact surfaces between the hub and shaft, generating progressive corrosion that can completely lock the propeller onto the shaft and require costly interventions for removal. Additionally, a defective closure compromises efficient transmission of engine torque, resulting in performance losses during navigation and increased wear on adjacent transmission train components.

When to Replace This Part?

The clearest indicators that the propeller closure kit needs replacement are abnormal resistance when disassembling the propeller during maintenance inspections, the presence of visible corrosion or salt deposits in the hub area or shaft cone, and any perceptible axial or radial play when manually moving the propeller with the engine stopped. For Suzuki DF/DT series V6 motors and their Johnson/Evinrude equivalents in BJ and J series under intensive use, it is recommended to inspect and replace this kit with each propeller disassembly or, at minimum, once per boating season. Preventive replacement with each propeller intervention eliminates the risk of a shaft seized by corrosion, avoiding serious breakdowns both in port and during navigation.
