Function and technical context

Tohatsu Outboard Engine Touch Up Paint in Metal Gray is a surface protective finish formulated specifically for aluminum and ABS plastic decks, covers and housings exposed to the marine environment. Its function within the engine is twofold: it protects the exterior components against oxidation, galvanic corrosion and the aggressive agents of salt water, and it guarantees the aesthetic continuity of the factory finish when the engine is intervened for repair or replacement of parts. Applied correctly, it creates a physical barrier that prevents the penetration of moisture into the metal or plastic surface, prolonging the useful life of the block covers, the hood cover and other exterior elements of the powertrain.

When to replace or apply this paint?

The most obvious sign that it is necessary to reapply this paint is the appearance of chips, areas of surface oxidation, pitting or pronounced discoloration on the engine casing, common symptoms after seasons of use in salt water or after dismantling and retightening of covers. It is recommended that the condition of the exterior finish be checked at each seasonal maintenance, especially after repairs that have required sanding or removing parts of the block. Applying this paint preventively after any mechanical intervention in which the surface has been manipulated prevents oxidation from advancing towards the base metal and compromising the structural integrity of the covers and casings.
