Function and technical context

This 25 x 52 x 7 mm oil seal works in the lubrication system of the outboard motor, acting as a watertight seal on the rotating shafts to prevent oil leakage to the outside and at the same time prevent the entry of water or contaminants to the inside. Its function is critical to maintain the correct pressure and level of lubricant in the working areas of the engine, protecting the bearings and sliding surfaces from premature wear. A deteriorated seal causes visible oil leaks, contamination of the lubricant with salt water and, in the most serious cases, severe damage to the internal components of the propeller due to insufficient lubrication.

When to replace this part?

The usual symptoms of an oil seal in poor condition include stains or traces of oil around the shaft where it is housed, unusually high oil consumption and, in some cases, the presence of emulsion or milky discoloration of the lubricant indicative of mixing with water. It is recommended to inspect the seal during each seasonal maintenance and replace it if there is any sign of leaking, hardening or deformation of the sealing lip; Preventive intervention in port avoids higher cost breakdowns during navigation.
