Function and technical context

The oil pump is the heart of the lubrication system in Yamaha two-stroke engines. Its mission is to supply lubricant under pressure to all critical points of the engine: crankshaft bearings, connecting rods, pistons and cylinders. In the 150 and 200 hp V6 engines, this pump works synchronously with the engine speed, injecting the precise amount of oil at all times to avoid excessive friction and premature wear. Without an oil pump in good condition, the engine suffers from poor lubrication, which causes increased temperatures, accelerated wear of internal components and, in extreme cases, engine seizure.

When to replace this part?

A worn oil pump shows symptoms such as low oil pressure on the panel gauge, metallic noises from inside the engine, abnormal oil consumption, or misfires due to insufficient lubrication. It is recommended to check the operation of the pump during each seasonal maintenance and replace it preventively if a reduction in flow or leaks is detected. Preventively changing the pump before it fails completely prevents catastrophic damage to the inside of the engine that would result in much more expensive repairs.
