Description

Function and Technical Context

The NGK PZFR6H spark plug is part of the outboard engine ignition system, being responsible for generating the electrical spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber at the precise moment of the engine cycle. Its platinum center electrode provides more efficient and durable ignition compared to conventional nickel spark plugs, contributing to complete combustion that results in greater performance and lower fuel consumption. Poor ignition causes engine misfires, hesitation at various RPMs, difficulty starting in cold conditions, and a notable increase in exhaust emissions. Keeping this component in perfect condition is essential to ensure engine response in any navigation condition.

When to Replace This Part?

The most common symptoms of a worn or faulty spark plug include difficult or failed starts, irregular idle operation, hesitation or loss of power at medium and high load, and fuel consumption higher than normal. For platinum spark plugs such as the PZFR6H, the recommended replacement interval is usually between 100 and 300 hours of use, although it is advisable to inspect them at each seasonal maintenance to detect carbon deposits, electrode erosion, or cracks in the insulator. Replacing spark plugs preventively at the start of the season is the practice most recommended by marine mechanics to avoid breakdowns during navigation.
