The spark plug is the component responsible for generating the electrical spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture within the combustion chamber of the outboard engine. It works in the engine's ignition system, acting as the end point of the high voltage circuit generated by the ignition coil and module. The NGK IZFR6K11 spark plug incorporates an iridium central electrode, a material that offers more efficient combustion and a longer useful life compared to conventional nickel spark plugs. A malfunctioning spark plug causes misfire, notable loss of power, high fuel consumption and even difficulty starting the engine, which can leave the boat without propulsion while underway.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a worn spark plug in outboard engines include difficult cold starts, jerky or irregular idling, unusual vibrations, and higher than usual fuel consumption.
