Function and technical context

The spark plug is the component responsible for generating the electrical spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture inside the cylinder, initiating the combustion cycle of the outboard engine. It operates in the engine ignition system, subjected to continuous cycles of high voltage, pressure and extreme temperature in each combustion event. A spark plug in poor condition causes incomplete or irregular combustion, resulting in power loss, excessive fuel consumption and starting difficulties. The NGK DR5HS reference is specifically designed for the ignition characteristics of Honda engines for which it is intended, ensuring a consistent and efficient spark in each cycle.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms indicating that a spark plug should be replaced are: difficult starting or cold start failure, hesitation and stumbling during navigation, unstable idle or engine stalling frequently, and notable increase in fuel consumption. In outboard engines it is recommended to inspect and replace spark plugs each season or approximately every 100 hours of use, whichever comes first. Changing spark plugs preventively at the start of each season is one of the most economical and effective interventions to prevent breakdowns on the water and ensure optimal engine performance.
