NGK DPR7EA-9 SPARK PLUG
Description
Function and technical context
The NGK DPR7EA-9 spark plug generates the electrical spark necessary to ignite the air-fuel mixture inside the cylinders of the petrol outboard or inboard engine. Integrated into the ignition system, it supports continuous cycles of high voltage, pressure and extreme temperature with each explosion of the piston. A worn or contaminated electrode causes ignition failures, loss of engine power, irregular fuel consumption and, in severe cases, makes starting during navigation impossible.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of deterioration include difficult or irregular starts, jerks and power losses at full load, high fuel consumption, abnormal engine vibrations and black smoke from the exhaust. In frequently used marine engines, it is recommended to check and replace the spark plugs every season or every 100 hours of navigation, an interval that is significantly reduced in salt water due to accelerated corrosion of the electrode and ceramic. Changing the spark plugs preventively before the first symptoms appear is the most economical strategy to avoid breakdowns at sea and prolong the life of the engine.
