Description

Function and technical context

The NGK BR8HS-10 spark plug is the element responsible for generating the electric spark that initiates combustion within the chamber of each cylinder of the outboard engine. It works integrated into the ignition system, subjected to continuous cycles of high voltage and extreme temperature in each detonation, supporting pressure variations depending on the engine speed and load. With an electrode spacing of 1.0 mm and a thermal rating of 8, this NGK reference offers balanced heat dissipation that makes it especially suitable for marine engines subjected to changing navigation conditions. Poor ignition due to deterioration of the spark plug can lead to difficult starting, loss of power at full load, excessive fuel consumption and even progressive engine damage if the situation continues.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a damaged spark plug in an outboard engine are irregular or unstable idling, difficulty starting when cold, loss of power in medium-high speed and abnormally high fuel consumption; Visual inspection of the electrodes will reveal black soot deposits or visible wear of the center electrode if the spark plug has reached the end of its useful life. For engines for nautical use, preventive inspection and replacement is recommended every 100 hours of operation or at the beginning of each navigation season, whichever comes first. Renewing the spark plugs before the summer campaign guarantees reliable ignition and avoids forced shutdowns at sea due to a completely preventable failure.
