NGK BR7ES SPARK PLUG
Description
Function and technical context
The spark plug is the component of the ignition system responsible for generating the electrical spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture inside the engine's combustion chamber. The NGK BR7ES works directly in the ignition cycle of two- and four-stroke petrol engines, being decisive so that each cylinder receives the necessary impulse at the precise moment. A bad spark plug causes misfires, increased fuel consumption, loss of power and excessive gas emissions; In severe cases it can cause carbonization of the piston or damage to the catalyst. Its correct thermal specification – identified by the degree of heat encoded in the reference BR7ES – guarantees adequate heat evacuation from the electrode to the cylinder head, avoiding pre-ignition or premature fouling of the electrode.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms that indicate that the spark plug needs to be changed are: difficult starting or engine failures when cold, jerks and backfires at medium speed, perceptible increase in petrol consumption and black smoke from the exhaust. In outboard engines, it is recommended to check and replace the spark plugs every season or every 100 hours of operation, whichever comes first, since the marine environment with humidity and saltpeter accelerates the corrosion of the electrode and the aging of the insulator. Changing the spark plugs preventively at the beginning of the nautical season is one of the most economical and effective interventions to ensure reliable starting and optimal performance on each outing to sea.
