Description

Function and technical context

The NGK BR6HS-10 spark plug is the central element of the ignition system in marine outboard engines: its electrode generates the electrical spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture in each cylinder cycle, converting the chemical energy of the fuel into mechanical power. Designed to work in the marine environment, where saline humidity, corrosion and sudden load variations are constant, it incorporates optimized electrode materials and geometry to offer consistent ignition in all navigation conditions. A deteriorated electrode compromises combustion in that cylinder, generating ignition failures that propagate as loss of response in acceleration, high fuel consumption and starting difficulties. The reference 33-11458M ensures exact correspondence with the ignition parameters established by the manufacturers for the indicated outboard models.

When to replace this part?

The most common signs that the spark plugs require replacement are difficult or irregular cold starting, unstable idling with noticeable vibrations in the engine, jerks while cruising and an unjustified increase in petrol consumption. In outboard engines in regular use, manufacturers recommend checking and renewing the spark plugs every 100 hours of operation or at the beginning of each boating season, whichever comes first. Replacing them preventively in annual maintenance is the lowest cost intervention that provides greater security against a breakdown at sea.
