NGK B7ES SPARK PLUG
Description
Function and technical context
The NGK B7ES spark plug is part of the outboard engine's ignition system, being responsible for generating the electrical spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber at the precise moment in the engine cycle. Its correct operation directly determines combustion efficiency, fuel consumption and the engine's response to acceleration. A worn electrode or an incorrect gap causes poor ignition which results in loss of power, jerks, difficulty starting when cold and increased consumption. The quality of the electrode material and the appropriate thermal range for each engine are determining factors to ensure that the spark is produced under optimal temperature and pressure conditions inside the cylinder.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of a damaged spark plug in an outboard engine are difficult or irregular starting, jerking or jerking at low rpm, unstable idling, and a noticeable increase in fuel consumption. For outboard engines in regular use, it is recommended to check the spark plugs at each seasonal maintenance and replace them at the interval indicated by the engine manufacturer, generally between 100 and 300 hours of operation depending on the model. Changing the spark plugs preventively at each annual tune-up is one of the lowest cost interventions that prevents major breakdowns and guarantees a reliable start on each outing to the sea.
