Description

Function and technical context

The NGK B10ES spark plug is part of the outboard engine's ignition system, being responsible for generating the electric spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture in the combustion chamber at the precise moment in the cycle. Its correct operation directly determines combustion efficiency, fuel consumption and the engine's response to different work regimes. A worn or contaminated electrode causes misfires, jerky acceleration, difficulty starting when cold, and noticeable loss of power. The NGK B10ES reference is a spark plug widely used in small and medium displacement outboard engines, with a thermal grade designed for two-stroke engines that work at medium-high speeds.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a bad spark plug are: difficult or impossible starting, irregular or unstable idling, jerks and power losses while cruising, and in advanced cases, black smoke from the exhaust indicative of an unburned mixture. For two-stroke outboard engines, it is recommended to check and replace the spark plugs every season or every 100 hours of use, whichever comes first. Changing the spark plug preventively at the beginning of the season is one of the most economical and effective maintenance interventions to avoid breakdowns in the water far from the port.
