Description

Function and technical context

The NGK CR6E spark plug is the central component of the ignition system in outboard engines, responsible for generating the electric spark that ignites the air-fuel mixture inside the combustion chamber in each engine cycle. Its thermal index is calibrated specifically for the Suzuki engines with which it is suitable, ensuring correct heat dissipation and avoiding both electrode preheating and fouling due to carbon deposits. When this component works in optimal conditions, the engine starts easily, maintains stable combustion at any speed and makes the most of the available fuel. A failure in the spark plug has a direct impact on the efficiency of the engine: irregularities occur in the ignition that manifest themselves as jerks, vibrations or difficulty in reaching cruising speed.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of a bad spark plug are difficult starting, especially when cold, irregular engine operation at low load ("stumbles"), visible increase in fuel consumption and the presence of black or irregular smoke in the exhaust. For outboard engines in frequent use, it is recommended to inspect the spark plugs every season and replace them approximately every 100 hours of operation, or if any of the symptoms described are present. Changing the spark plug preventively is one of the lowest-cost interventions that prevents the most incidents, including unexpected stops in navigation.
