This sprocket kit constitutes the heart of the marine transmission, responsible for transmitting the engine's power to the propeller through a reduction ratio of 1.75:1. The 12- and 21-tooth sprockets work in the gearbox gear system, allowing the engine to reach optimal operating revolutions in forward gear. A properly engaged transmission is essential for efficient acceleration, stable cruising speed and balanced fuel consumption in boats equipped with high displacement Mercury V6 engines. Wear or breakage of these gears generates loss of traction, abnormal vibrations and eventual impossibility of propulsion.

When to replace this part?

Symptoms of deterioration in the sprockets include metallic or creaking noises coming from the gearbox, difficulty engaging forward gear, or vibrations transmitted to the hull during navigation. Although these components are durable under normal operating conditions, preventive maintenance is recommended after thousands of hours of navigation or when anomalies are detected in the behavior of the transmission.
