It works continuously while the engine is running, which requires a robust construction capable of withstanding the vibrations, humidity and temperatures typical of the marine environment. An alternator in poor condition directly compromises the energy availability of the boat: if it does not generate sufficient voltage, the battery is progressively discharged until leaving the engine without starting and the safety systems without power.
