Function and technical context

Sacrificial anodes for fast boat hulls act as an electrochemical shield against galvanic corrosion, protecting the metallic elements of the hull, propellers, shafts and submerged accessories. Made of high-purity zinc, this anode oxidizes in a controlled manner instead of the noble parts of the boat, absorbing eddy currents and galvanic attacks generated by contact between different metals in sea or brackish water. Its 210×100×30 mm geometry is specially designed to adapt to the hulls of high-speed boats (scafi veloci), providing an efficient reaction surface and secure fixation to the bottom of the hull. Without correct cathodic protection, corrosion advances silently on rudders, horns, flying buttresses and aluminum surfaces, leading to serious and costly structural failures.

When to replace this part?

The clearest sign that the anode needs to be replaced is when it has lost between 50 and 70% of its mass: at that point it no longer offers sufficient protection and the hull is exposed to galvanic corrosion. As a general rule in boats in regular use, it is recommended to inspect the anodes at the beginning and end of each nautical season, and replace them at least once a year or whenever this wear threshold is exceeded, regardless of the time elapsed. Replacing the anode preventively during the annual grounding is the most economical and effective measure to avoid damage to the propeller, shaft and hull that would multiply the repair cost.
