SPARE ZINC 51 x 19mm.
Description
Function and technical context
This replacement zinc anode with dimensions 51 x 19 mm acts as cathodic protection on the hull, engine legs and submerged metal structures of the boat. Its function is to sacrifice itself electrochemically to protect noble metals—such as aluminum, stainless steel or bronze—from galvanic corrosion caused by the action of salt or brackish water. Without adequate cathodic protection, the metal components of the transmission, propeller shaft or outboard or inboard motor housing can quickly degrade, causing costly breakdowns and compromising the safety of the boat. This replacement, identified under the reference CMEZ3, is designed to directly replace the worn zinc anode while maintaining exact assembly dimensions.
When to replace this part?
Zinc anodes should be inspected at least at the beginning and end of each nautical season; The general rule among marine mechanics is to replace them when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, or preventively at the beginning of each season if the boat operates in waters with high conductivity. The clear symptoms that the anode is exhausted are the presence of visible pitting or erosion on nearby metal surfaces - propeller, shaft, motor casing - or the anode completely consumed without a trace of active zinc. Replacing the zinc preventively with the CMEZ3 reference is the most economical intervention possible to avoid advanced galvanic corrosion, which can render high-cost parts unusable in the middle of the season.
