Function and technical context
Triton hard matrix antifouling in navy blue is a high-performance antifouling paint designed to protect the hull of recreational and sports boats against the colonization of marine organisms such as algae, mussels, barnacles and other biofouling. It acts through the controlled release of biocides in the surface layer of the paint, creating a physical-chemical barrier that prevents the adhesion of these organisms to the helmet. As it is a hard matrix formulation, its structure does not erode with water, which makes it especially suitable for high-speed or frequently used boats where hydrodynamic friction is high. Keeping the hull free of fouling reduces drag, reduces fuel consumption and prolongs the life of the gelcoat and fiberglass or steel layers.
When to apply or renew this antifouling?
The most obvious signs that antifouling has exhausted its effectiveness are the visible presence of biofouling on the hull after removing the boat from the water, a perceptible increase in fuel consumption or a loss of top speed under normal navigation conditions. For hard matrix paints, the usual professional recommendation is to review the condition of the layer at each seasonal stranding and renew the application once a year or according to the hours spent in the water and the biological aggressiveness of the anchoring area. Anticipating biocide depletion prevents costly in-water hull cleanings and protects the boat's structure from damage that can compromise its long-term integrity.
