Description
Function and technical context
This exhaust gasket is the hermetic seal that establishes the tightness between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe in 2-stroke marine engines. It works in the combustion residual gas evacuation system, supporting high temperatures and repetitive pressure cycles. Its function is to prevent gas leaks to the outside and pressure losses that would compromise the thermal efficiency of the propellant, in addition to preventing the entry of seawater into the exhaust chambers.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of wear include visible water leaks from the junction area between the manifold and the pipe, abnormal noises or hissing noises in the exhaust, and significant reduction in engine performance. It is recommended to check the condition of this gasket every intensive sailing season and replace it preventively when you notice any signs of leaks, since a deteriorated gasket can allow seawater to enter the internal engine system, causing accelerated corrosion and costly breakdowns.
