Function and technical context

The head gasket is the critical sealing element that seals the joint between the engine block and the cylinder head in Yamaha outboard engines. This gasket establishes a hermetic seal in the combustion chamber, preventing explosion gases from escaping into the cooling or lubrication circuits, and preventing coolant from entering the cylinder. Its deterioration directly compromises the integrity of the sealing system, causing loss of compression, localized overheating, oil contamination due to salt water infiltration and, ultimately, irreversible damage to the block and cylinder head.

When to replace this part?
