Function and technical context

The Champion RV12YC spark plug is the component responsible for generating the electric spark that initiates the combustion of the air-fuel mixture inside the cylinder of the outboard or stationary petrol engine. Integrated into the ignition system, it works closely with the ignition coil and distributor or CDI module to ensure that each combustion cycle occurs at the exact time and with the appropriate energy. A bad spark plug causes misfires, loss of power, increased fuel consumption and, in severe cases, can cause damage to the piston or combustion chamber due to uncontrolled detonation.
