Thru Hull with Hose Tail Chromed Brass 1 1/4" - 38 mm
Description
Function and technical context
The spigot thru-hull is an essential hull accessory that allows the watertight connection between the inside of the boat and the outside, passing through the hull in a safe and sealed manner. The integrated nipple – also called a union or union fitting – allows you to directly attach a bilge hose, seawater cooling system, gray water evacuation or other hydraulic lines without the need for additional connecting parts. Made of chromed brass, this material offers excellent corrosion resistance in marine environments and guarantees the durability of the assembly both in permanent installations below the waterline and above it. A thru-hull in poor condition can compromise the structural integrity of the seal, with the consequent risk of water entering the interior of the hull.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms that indicate the need to replace a thru-hull are the appearance of moisture or dripping around the hull penetration point, visible corrosion on the thread or body of the part, difficulty in tightening or loosening the assembly, and cracks in the brass due to fatigue or impact. It is recommended to visually inspect all thru-hulls at each seasonal tune-up, checking the state of the sealing, the absence of verdigris or rust and the correct attachment of the hose to the spigot. Replacing a damaged thru-hull preventively, before launching the boat, avoids serious risk situations in navigation and emergency repairs in the dock.
