Female/Female Pipe Elbow 45º AISI 316 Stainless Steel 1/2"
Description
Function and technical context
This 45° female/female elbow in AISI 316 stainless steel is used to change the direction of flow in 1/2" pipes in freshwater, saltwater nautical installations, seawater cooling systems, wet exhaust circuits and auxiliary fuel lines. Its 45° geometry allows for smooth detours in the pipeline layout, reducing turbulence and pressure loss compared to 90° elbows, which makes it especially suitable in installations where space is limited or where a progressive transition between sections of pipe is required. AISI 316 stainless steel, with its high resistance to corrosion by chlorides and aggressive marine environments, guarantees the integrity of the joint even in installations permanently exposed to salt water. A deteriorated or leaking elbow can compromise the tightness of the circuit, cause flow losses, unwanted water entry or failures in the boat's cooling system.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of an elbow in poor condition are the appearance of humidity, surface rust, calcareous deposits in the thread area or visible leaks in the threaded joints, especially after periods of inactivity of the boat or after wintering. In saltwater installations, it is advisable to visually inspect all stainless steel threaded accessories at the beginning of each nautical season, checking that there are no signs of intergranular corrosion or looseness in the connections. Preventively replacing any accessory with signs of corrosion or microcracks prevents major navigation breakdowns and guarantees the reliability of the circuit throughout the season.
