Ball Valve AISI 316 Stainless Steel 3/4"
Description
Function and technical context
AISI 316 stainless steel ball valves are essential fluid shut-off and control components in nautical installations, commonly used in seawater cooling circuits, ballast systems, fuel lines, bilges and hull intakes. The AISI 316 alloy – also known as marine stainless steel – incorporates molybdenum in its composition, which gives it superior resistance to galvanic corrosion and oxidation caused by salt water compared to standard 304 steel. The female/female connection at both ends facilitates direct installation on threaded pipes without additional adapters, allowing the flow of fluid to be isolated or regulated with a quarter turn. A faulty seal or a blocked valve can prevent the isolation of a circuit in an emergency situation, compromise the engine's cooling flow or cause flooding in the hull if the bottom valve loses its tightness.
When to replace this part?
The most common signs that a marine ball valve needs replacement are: difficulty turning the actuating lever (ball seized by lime deposits or internal corrosion), visible leaks from the stem or ball seats, and loss of tightness in the closed position detected as continuous dripping downstream of the seal. It is recommended to inspect all ball valves during each seasonal maintenance - especially those located in hull intakes and cooling circuits - checking for free opening and complete closure without play. Preventively replacing a valve with symptoms of corrosion or wear on the seat before launching avoids critical navigation breakdowns that could compromise the safety of the boat.
