Ball Valve AISI 316 Stainless Steel 1"
Description
Function and technical context
AISI 316 stainless steel ball valves are flow cut-off and control components installed in bilge systems, sea intakes, refrigeration and fuel or sanitary water lines on board vessels. Its main function is to interrupt or allow the passage of fluids through a quarter turn, offering a hermetic and reliable seal in conditions of demanding marine use. AISI 316 stainless steel – known as “marine steel” due to its high molybdenum content – provides superior resistance to galvanic corrosion and salt water action compared to conventional grades, making it the professional choice for permanent hull and deck installations. A valve in poor condition can cause fluid losses, water entering the hull or unexpected cuts in critical circuits, compromising the safety of the boat.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptoms of deterioration in a marine ball valve are difficulty turning the lever, visible leaks in the body or threaded connections, and blockage of the ball due to limescale or spot corrosion. It is recommended to inspect all shut-off valves during each seasonal maintenance, activating them to check their mobility and tightness; A valve that has not moved for several years should be replaced preventively, since it usually blocks just at the most critical moment. Replacing the valve before it fails prevents unplanned downtime, bilge flooding and emergency repairs in port or at sea.
