Description

Function and technical context

Marlin TF self-polishing antifouling is a hull bottom paint designed to protect the hull of motor and sailing boats against fouling by marine organisms such as algae, mussels, barnacles and other biofouling that colonize submerged surfaces. Unlike conventional bottom paints, its self-polishing Copolymer (SPC) technology gradually releases biocides as the hull moves through the water, maintaining an active, clean surface throughout the entire boating season. This controlled action prevents the accumulation of organisms that increase the drag of the hull, which directly translates into increased fuel consumption, loss of speed and long-term structural damage to the fiberglass, steel or aluminum of the hull. The 2.5 liter presentation in navy blue allows efficient application on medium-length boats, guaranteeing homogeneous coverage and a highly pigmented finish with excellent hiding power.

When to apply or renew this antifouling?

The most obvious sign that antifouling has exhausted its useful life is the appearance of visible colonies of organisms adhered to the hull during dry or grounded inspections, as well as a perceptible increase in fuel consumption without apparent mechanical cause. As a general rule, self-polishing antifoulings should be renewed each nautical season, coinciding with the annual winter stranding or spring tune-up: the hull is gently sanded, at least one coat of primer is applied if necessary and the antifouling coats recommended by the manufacturer are applied. A shipyard professional will advise applying an additional layer in areas of greater hydrodynamic stress such as the rudder blade and the flotation zone; Renewing the bottom treatment each season is the most cost-effective preventive measure to protect the hull and maintain navigation performance.
