ANODO OVAL SOLDAR 1.8KG (AL)
Description
Function and technical context
Sacrificial anodes are the electrochemical shield of any boat: being made of high-purity aluminum, they corrode in a controlled manner instead of the nobler metals of the hull, propeller, rudder and submerged accessories. This oval profile anode is designed to be welded directly on metal surfaces of the hull or appendages, guaranteeing continuous electrical contact and without risk of detachment due to vibration or demanding navigation. The cathodic protection it provides is especially effective in salty and brackish waters, where galvanic corrosion acts more aggressively on the structural steel, brass and aluminum alloys of the boat.
When to replace this part?
The most obvious alarm signal is when the anode has lost between 50% and 70% of its mass: from that point on it no longer offers sufficient protection and the noble metals of the hull begin to degrade. Inspection and replacement is recommended at least once a season, coinciding with the annual beaching, although in areas of high salinity or with vessels in intensive use it may be necessary to inspect it every six months. Replacing the anode preventively is the most economical maintenance measure available: a worn anode can result in pitting on the hull, damage to shafts or propellers that multiply the cost of the repair tenfold.
