ANODO OVAL SOLDAR ZINC 250X90MX50M
Description
Function and technical context
This oval zinc welding anode acts as cathodic protection for the metal hulls and submerged structures of the vessel, sacrificing itself electrochemically to prevent galvanic corrosion from destroying the metal of the hull, rudder, keel or other surfaces in contact with salt or brackish water. With dimensions of 250 x 90 x 50 mm, its oval geometry facilitates a uniform distribution of the protective field on flat or curved surfaces, being especially suitable for direct installation by welding on steel or iron hulls. When consumed in a controlled manner, the zinc anode diverts corrosion towards itself, preserving the structural integrity of the hull and significantly extending the life of the protected components. Poor cathodic protection or a depleted anode exposes the hull to pitting, accelerated erosion and material loss that can compromise the watertightness of the vessel.
When to replace this part?
Zinc anodes should be inspected at least at the beginning and end of each sailing season, and replaced when they show wear greater than 50% of their mass or when signs of active galvanic corrosion appear in the areas they protect, such as pitting or discoloration on the adjacent hull. In high salinity environments or with leakage electrical currents (electrolysis), consumption can be much faster, so it is recommended to check the condition of all the anodes every time the boat is taken ashore. Renewing the anode preventively before it is completely depleted is the most economical measure to avoid irreparable structural damage to the hull that would require costly repairs in the dock.
