ANODO OVAL SOLDAR MAGNESIO 200X70MM
Description
Function and technical context
This oval magnesium welding anode acts as active cathodic protection on the hull and submerged metal structures of the vessel, sacrificing itself electrochemically to prevent galvanic corrosion from destroying the base metal of the hull, keel or other structural elements. Being made of magnesium, it is especially suitable for use in fresh and brackish waters, where the electrochemical potential of magnesium offers more effective protection than zinc or aluminum against the galvanic couples common in these environments. Its 200x70 mm oval format and welding fixation guarantee a direct, low electrical resistance metallurgical union with the surface to be protected, ensuring optimal current continuity without poor contact points that compromise protection. If the anode is completely consumed without being replaced in time, galvanic corrosion directly attacks the structural metal of the hull or the bronze, stainless steel or aluminum accessories in contact with the water, potentially causing irreparable damage and costly repairs in the dock.
When to replace this part?
The clearest sign that the magnesium anode needs to be changed is when it has lost approximately 50% of its mass or presents an irregular, cracked and porous surface that indicates advanced consumption; In no case should you wait for it to disappear completely. Inspection and replacement is recommended at least once per nautical season, ideally during the annual beaching, although in waters with high conductivity or on boats with complex electrical installations it is also advisable to inspect it mid-season. Replacing the anode preventively at each grounding is one of the lowest-cost interventions that exist in nautical maintenance and, however, the one that prevents the most serious structural damage in the long term.
