BARRAS LISAS Ø 14 L. 400 (ZN)
Description
Function and technical context
The smooth zinc bars with a diameter of 14 mm and a length of 400 mm are cathodic protection elements designed to safeguard the submerged metal components of boats against galvanic corrosion. They act as sacrificial anodes in bar format, installing directly on the hull, keel, rudder or other metal structures of the boat exposed to sea or brackish water. Since zinc is a more electronegative metal than steel, aluminum or bronze, it oxidizes preferentially, thus protecting the higher-value structural metals. Their Ø 14 mm smooth cylindrical format makes it easy to cut to size and adapt to different mounting configurations, making them a versatile solution for customized shipyard installations or dockside maintenance.
When to replace this part?
The clearest symptom that a zinc anode bar requires replacement is the loss of more than 50% of its mass: when the anode appears greatly reduced, cracked or completely consumed, the cathodic protection has ceased and the structural metals begin to suffer pitting and active corrosion. It is recommended to inspect and renew the zinc anodes at least once per nautical season, coinciding with the annual beaching for cleaning and bottom painting, although in areas of high salinity or with parasitic electrical currents in the port a semiannual review may be necessary. Preventively replacing zinc bars before they are completely used up is the most economical measure to avoid serious damage to shafts, propellers, rudders and metal hulls that can lead to high-cost repairs.
