Description

Function and technical context

This zinc plate anode with dimensions 210x100 mm acts as cathodic protection on the hull or submerged metal surfaces of the vessel, sacrificing itself electrochemically to prevent galvanic corrosion in aluminum, steel or bronze structures exposed to salt or brackish water. It works within the passive cathodic protection system, interposing itself between the electrolytic medium and the noble metals of the boat, so that it is the zinc itself that is consumed instead of propellers, shafts, tails or hulls. Its correct installation and periodic replacement is critical: without active anodic protection, galvanic corrosion can deteriorate structural and propulsion components that require high replacement costs in just a few weeks. The reference REC8107 corresponds to a screwable flat plate format, which facilitates its assembly on smooth surfaces of the hull or on the keels of medium-length boats.

When to replace this part?

Zinc anodes should be inspected at least once a season and replaced when they have lost approximately 50% of their mass, when their protective capacity decreases significantly. Clear signs that cathodic protection is insufficient include the appearance of pitting or erosion on propellers, shafts or aluminum surfaces of the hull, as well as a whitish coloration and porous texture on the anode itself that indicates advanced consumption. It is recommended to replace the zinc plate anode preventively at each annual beaching; Postponing it can lead to costly structural damage that in many cases far exceeds the price of several sets of anodes.
