Description

Function and technical context

The AMITA3 aluminum alloy propeller with a diameter of 15.50 inches and pitch of 17 inches in counter-clockwise rotation configuration transforms engine torque into hydrodynamic thrust within the vessel's propulsion system. Its three optimally-designed blades operate in the aquatic medium, converting the rotational energy of the propeller shaft into effective forward motion. The 17-inch pitch is the parameter that determines the theoretical distance traveled with each complete revolution and, therefore, the balance between top speed and pulling capacity. The counter-clockwise rotation—when viewed from astern—makes it the specific solution for dual-engine installations where it is necessary to counteract reaction torque, typically in the starboard position, or for any propulsion configuration requiring this rotation direction with 225 HP motors. A damaged propeller with deformed pitch or deteriorated shock hub causes cavitation, notable loss of speed, increased fuel consumption, and continuous strain on the shaft, stern seals, and the gearbox of the outboard or inboard motor.

When to replace this component?

The clearest indicators that the propeller needs replacement are: unusual vibrations perceptible at the transom or rudder during navigation, loss of maximum RPM without identifiable engine cause, excessive cavitation with aeration and loss of traction when accelerating, or visual confirmation of bent blades, cracks, missing material, or leading edges eroded after impact with submerged objects or bottoms. It is recommended to visually inspect the propeller and check the condition of the shock hub at each seasonal maintenance, since a worn hub transmits power inefficiently even when the blades appear in good external condition. Replacing this component at the first sign of damage prevents progressive mechanical stress on the propeller shaft, seals, and gearbox, whose repair is considerably more costly than preventive propeller replacement.
