Function and technical context

The TEN06002T ZF rod anode is a cathodic protection element designed to defend submerged metal parts of the ZF transmission or tail against galvanic corrosion. Made of zinc, it acts as a sacrificial metal: being electrochemically more active than aluminum or steel in structural components, it preferentially corrodes, preserving the integrity of higher-cost parts such as the transmission housing, axle or tail surfaces. Its correct installation and periodic replacement is essential in vessels anchored in salt or brackish water, where galvanic corrosion acts continuously and imperceptibly until causing serious and irreversible structural damage.

When to replace this anode?

The clearest sign that the zinc anode has exhausted its useful life is the loss of more than 50% of its mass: when it appears very reduced, fragmented or with a hardened surface and without visible corrosion activity, it has stopped protecting effectively. It is recommended to inspect the anode at each beaching or at least at the beginning and end of each nautical season, replacing it preventively if its wear exceeds half of the volume; Do not wait for it to disappear completely, since during the time that the boat remains without sufficient cathodic protection, the metallic components of the transmission are exposed to damage that can result in high-cost repairs or the total loss of critical parts.
