The impeller is an essential component of the water cooling system in marine engines, responsible for pumping seawater into the engine to dissipate the heat generated during combustion. Its operation is critical to maintain operating temperatures within safe ranges; When the impeller degrades or fails, the water flow decreases drastically, causing engine overheating, loss of power and, in extreme cases, seizure of the drive assembly.
When to replace this part?
The impeller should be inspected and replaced regularly due to its constant exposure to salt water and mechanical abrasion. The most obvious symptoms of wear include an abnormal increase in engine temperature, a notable reduction in visible cooling flow in the outlet tubes, and noticeable damage to the impeller blades such as breakage, deformation, or shedding of material.
