Function and technical context

The cylindrical sleeve is an essential component of the engine block that forms the combustion chamber and guides the piston. In Yamaha F115 engines, it acts as the internal wall of the cylinder, allowing the reciprocating movement of the piston and maintaining the tightness necessary for the compression and combustion of the fuel. Its condition is critical for the thermal efficiency of the engine: wear or corrosion in the liner causes loss of compression, leakage of combustion gases into the crankcase, and finally overheating and disabling of the engine.

When to replace this part?

Cylindrical liners require replacement when visible loss of compression, scoring or internal pitting in the cylinder is detected after inspection with a borescope, or when the engine presents symptoms such as difficulty starting, abnormal smoke in the exhaust or excessive coolant consumption. In saltwater environments, corrosion control is essential; It is recommended to inspect the liner during each seasonal inspection and replace it preventively if signs of active corrosion are observed, thus avoiding major repairs that require complete dismantling of the engine block.
