The flexor is an elastomeric component located in the engine transmission line, specifically in the coupling between the crankshaft and the propeller. Its function is to absorb vibrations and impacts generated by the rotation of the propeller, thus protecting the bearings, seals and internal structures of the engine. It works in the power transmission system, where it supports continuous torsional stresses and sudden load changes. A degraded or deteriorated flexor allows these vibrations to be transmitted without damping, accelerating the wear of adjacent components and compromising the tightness of the engine.

When to replace this part?

Symptoms of flexor aging include abnormal vibrations in the engine, metallic noises in the mating area, and loss of alignment between the engine and propeller. It is recommended to check its condition during each seasonal maintenance, especially on boats with intensive use or in waters with floating debris that can cause impacts on the propeller. Preventatively replacing the flender before it completely fails prevents costly secondary damage to mechanical seals and bearings.
