The tail housing is the structural component that surrounds and protects the drive system and impeller in the stern unit of the outboard motor. This part integrates the impeller housing, support bearings and seawater cooling ducts, being essential to maintain the hydrodynamic and thermal integrity of the propulsion assembly. Its correct function is essential to prevent water from entering the gearbox, prevent excessive cavitation in the impeller and guarantee optimal cooling flow during navigation.
When to replace this part?
The tail housing requires replacement when it shows cracks, accelerated corrosion, deformations due to impact against submerged objects, or when oil leaks are detected from the mounting joints. Although it does not have a fixed maintenance interval, any impact with visible consequences, deep oxidation in welding areas or loss of tightness are clear signs of need for replacement.
