The crankshaft is the fundamental component of the power transmission system in Yamaha engines, responsible for converting the reciprocating linear motion of the pistons into continuous rotary motion. This element works integrated into the engine bed, supporting all the compression and combustion loads generated during the operating cycle. Its structural integrity is critical: any wear, crack or deformation in the crankshaft causes excessive vibration, loss of power, misalignment of internal components and, in advanced cases, engine seizure or catastrophic breakage of connecting rods.

When to replace this part?

Symptoms of wear on the crankshaft include abnormal vibrations noticeable throughout the boat, metallic knocking in the crankshaft area, progressive loss of power and irregular oil consumption. Although crankshafts are designed to operate for thousands of hours, periodic checking of their condition is essential after engine repairs, especially if there have been problems with lubrication, cavitation or prolonged operation under extreme stress. Replacing preventively when there are signs of wear prevents cascading damage that affects connecting rods, pistons and cylinders, repairs that are exponentially more expensive than changing the crankshaft.
