PISTON RINGS 0.50 YAMAHA 682-11610-21
Description
Function and technical context
The piston ring is an essential component of the sealing system in the combustion chamber of the Yamaha engine. Its main function is to guarantee sealing between the piston and the cylinder walls, preventing combustion gas leaks into the crankcase and pressure loss during the expansion stroke. This ring works under extreme conditions of temperature and pressure, subjected to constant friction against the cylinder walls. Wear or breakage of the piston ring causes progressive loss of compression, increased fuel consumption, entry of oil into the combustion chamber and, in severe cases, irreversible damage to the cylinder.
When to replace this part?
Piston rings should be inspected during every engine overhaul, especially if loss of compression, bluish smoke in the exhaust or abnormal increase in lubricant consumption is detected. Ring wear is progressive and cumulative; Preventive replacement during engine grinding or rebuilding prevents costly secondary damage to cylinders and valves. When the engine requires extensive intervention (piston replacement, cylinder repair), it is imperative to replace the rings with new parts, never reuse the old ones. This +0.50 oversize is designed for cylinders ground to that oversize, ensuring correct sealing after repair of worn engines.
