Function and technical context

This repair kit is designed to restore the correct operation of the water pump on 2- and 3-cylinder loop-charged short-tail outboard engines manufactured between 1971 and 1978. The water pump is part of the seawater cooling circuit: its mission is to propel water through the engine to dissipate the heat generated during combustion. This kit includes the internal wear components of the small pump with half-moon key, allowing the necessary tightness and flow to be recovered without replacing the entire assembly. A failure in the water pump directly compromises the cooling of the engine, and can cause overheating, damage to gaskets, deformations in the cylinder head and even the disabling of the propeller.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms of wear in an outboard water pump include the absence or reduction of the visible cooling water jet in the outlet pilot, the thermostat tripping due to excessive temperature and the appearance of abnormal noises in the pump housing. It is recommended to check and inspect the water pump during each seasonal maintenance, and replace wear components at least every two seasons or when signs of deterioration in the impeller or seals are detected. Acting preventively with this repair kit avoids serious breakdowns at sea and considerably reduces the cost of a major repair.
