SUZUKI WATER PUMP KIT 17400-93912
Description
Function and technical context
This water pump kit is part of the outboard engine's cooling system, being the component responsible for propelling seawater through the cooling circuit to maintain the working temperature within safe limits. The set includes the replacement elements necessary to restore the correct operation of the pump, the core of which is a rubber impeller that, with the rotation of the motor, generates the circulation of water towards the motor casing. A failure in this assembly can cause overheating of the block, with the risk of serious damage to gaskets, pistons and cylinder head, situations that involve high-cost repairs and, in navigation, an emergency stop.
When to replace this part?
The most common symptom of wear of the water pump kit is the absence or reduction of the cooling water jet on the outboard engine indicator (the well-known "whistle"), sometimes accompanied by activation of the overtemperature pilot light. Rubber impellers are recommended to be checked every 200-300 hours of operation or at the beginning of each nautical season, since the rubber ages and loses elasticity even without prolonged use due to static pressure and exposure to salt. Replacing the kit preventively at the beginning of the season is the practice recommended by naval mechanics to avoid engine breakdowns at sea.
