Function and technical context

This water pump kit is part of the outboard motor's water cooling system, responsible for driving the continuous flow of seawater through the cooling circuit. The set includes all the elements necessary for the complete renewal of the pump: impeller, casing, wear plate, gaskets and other sealing components that guarantee the correct cooling flow. Poor operation of the water pump causes overheating of the engine block, with the consequent risk of serious damage to the cylinder head, pistons and gaskets, as well as triggering the thermal alarm system. Keeping this pump in perfect condition is, therefore, one of the most important preventive measures in the maintenance of high displacement two-stroke Suzuki outboard engines.

When to replace this part?

The most obvious symptom of deterioration of the impeller or the internal components of the water pump is the reduction or absence of the pilot water jet (the "tell-tale"), frequently accompanied by temperature rises indicated on the panel or by the engine's acoustic alarm. Rubber impeller vanes harden, crack or warp with use and exposure to heat, so it is recommended to replace the entire kit every 300 hours of boating or at least every two seasons. Making this change preventively, taking advantage of annual maintenance, avoids costly breakdowns and strandings in areas where technical assistance is difficult.
