Description

Function and technical context

The through-hull with grille is an essential accessory in the seawater cooling system of any boat: it allows water to enter through the hull to feed the engine cooling pump or other auxiliary systems, while the integrated grille acts as the first physical filter, preventing the passage of algae, mollusks, debris and other foreign bodies that could clog or damage the internal circuits. Made of brass, a material recognized in naval engineering for its excellent resistance to corrosion in saline environments and its mechanical robustness, this 3/4" thru-hull is sized for standard installations on recreational boats and professional use. A damaged, cracked or clogged thru-hull can seriously compromise the cooling flow, exposing the engine to overheating, or generate water leaks into the hull with potentially serious consequences for the safety of the boat.

When to replace this part?

The most common symptoms that indicate the need to replace the grille thru-hull include: visible corrosion or pitting on the brass body, deformation or breakage of the grille bars, difficulty opening or closing the associated bottom cock, and reduced cooling water flow detectable by increased engine temperature or a weak exhaust stream. It is recommended to visually inspect the thru-hull during each seasonal maintenance, checking the condition of the grille, the integrity of the body and the tightness of the seal with the hull. Replacing it preventively at the slightest sign of advanced corrosion or deformation avoids risky emergency interventions with the boat in the water.
