This upper engine base gasket seals the critical joint between the engine block and cylinder head on two-stroke outboard engines, forming an essential hermetic barrier in the cooling and lubrication circuits. It works under intense pressure cycles, avoiding coolant and oil leaks in one of the areas of maximum thermal and mechanical stress of the propeller. Its integrity is essential to maintain the tightness of the system: any degradation allows water infiltration into the combustion chambers, triggering accelerated internal corrosion, loss of compression and progressive deterioration of navigation performance.

When to replace this part?

The engine base gaskets progressively degrade due to repeated thermal stress, oxidation of the elastomeric material and sustained pressure from the tightening bolts. The most common indicators of failure include visible presence of coolant or oil in the engine base, abnormal overheating of the equipment even when the cooling system is functioning correctly, and detection of water in the crankcase during oil changes. It is recommended to inspect the condition of this gasket at each seasonal inspection and replace it preventively every 5-7 years of regular use or at the first symptoms of leaks, since a breakdown during navigation can lead to irreversible damage to the engine.
